About the Project
What is Social Characters?
Social Characters is a serialized fiction project told entirely through social media. Seven fictional characters have real accounts on Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and Threads. They post, comment, like, and interact — just like anyone else on your feed.
The difference is: they're characters in a story. Their posts are chapters. Their silences are plot points. When two characters show up at the same event and neither mentions the other, that's not a coincidence — it's narrative design.
The story is set in Atlanta, 2026. It follows seven people navigating ambition, identity, relationships, and the gap between who they are online and who they are at 2am when nobody's watching. Season 1 — “The Come Up” — runs for 13 weeks and follows Khayeem James as he quits his corporate job to launch a startup, with six other characters orbiting his story in unexpected ways.
Why Fictional Characters on Real Platforms?
Because that's where stories live now. We don't discover narratives in bookstores anymore — we discover them in our feeds, between work emails and dinner photos. Social Characters meets the audience where they already are.
The format creates something unique: you don't just read the story. You follow it. You get notifications when a character posts. You see their content mixed in with your real friends' updates. The line between fiction and reality blurs just enough to make the story feel alive — while every bio clearly states “Fictional character.”
The Ethics of Fiction on Social Media
Transparency is non-negotiable. Every character account includes “Fictional character” in the bio from Day 1. The creator account (@socialcharacters) exists specifically to provide context and maintain the boundary between fiction and reality.
No character will ever post misleading information about real events, real people, or real companies. The story is fiction. The platforms are real. The distinction is always clear.
If you're ever unsure whether something is part of the story or real, check the bio. Or ask. We'll always tell you the truth.
